TEHRAN -- Translator and academic Dogan Özlük is translating “Shariati’s Letter” and some other books written by Persian scholar Ali Shariati into Turkish.

After the Islamic Revolution of Iran, several Turkish scholars yearned to translate Iranian books on Iranian Islamic culture, Özlük told the Persian service of Fars News Agency.

“Since then I have translated three books written by Ali Shariati, but I prefer to read the original text of the books due to my ideological beliefs,” he added.

Shariati’s “Fatima is Fatima” is another book which was translated by Özlük into Persian.

Ali Shariati (1933–1977), who earned a Ph.D. in the history of Islam and sociology at the University of Paris, is regarded as one of the most influential ideological leaders of pre-revolutionary Iran. 

The impact and popularity of Shariati’s thought continues to be felt throughout Iranian society many years later. “Where Shall We Begin?”, “Fatima Is Fatima”, “And Once Again Abu-Dhar” are among his noteworthy credits.
